lol yeah... that hobby shop does not know what they're talking about. 23T is a stupid idea. Mod cars should be kept in the mid 30s. stock cars should be kept around 45-50T. If you want a hot motor built then I have a 33T sitting in an atomic can right next to me. I'm goign to post it up in the forsale section sometime tmw. If you're interested then you can have first dibs. Its pattern wound and with a nspec pattern (something that i thought of that'll give you a little bit more torque then other motors).
If you're looking for cheap stuff then it doesnt get much cheaper then a speedy 05. That right there seems to be the weapon of choice for stock drivers. Its cheap. Its not nearly as great as a pattern wound motor but its definently worth the cash for ~15.
I've done a little testing...The X-Speed V does not have 23 winds. I have one running in my MA010 with stock fets and haven't burnt it up, so I'd say it has a wind number then that. My feelings are, based on performance, is it's closer to a stage two then a "hot" motor like you've listed.
IDK, I build my own motors, and I've run into trouble, mainly from not being thourogh and taking my time. But it is cheaper, and you can make it as crazy as you want it, if your talking about a crazy $40 motor, but you cant really beat 16 buks. lol
If it is a 23 turn motor you will wind up having to get some fet upgrades, evo and gen 1
I've heard very few good things about the torque/speed characteristics of the motor, so I would pass. Just my opinion, though...take it how you want it.
I have it in my evo and it runs great with a stock board. Faster then any s2.
