So, I have some extra motors Radioshack motors laying around, and I would like to attempt hand winding, so I was wondering
1) How Do I do it? and
2) What do I do for a motor with massive torque?

And, i might as well ask while I'm at it- is it possible to design a xmod so that It can burnout? Not like fishtail, but actually burn rubber off the tires? I would assume that I'd have to lock the diff. and whatnot, but is it possible to litterally burn the rubber off the tires? I got an awesome painted Firebird body that I'd love to turn into a burn-mobile....I dont think my friends will forgive me for using it to drift till I do 8)

Re: HandWound motors

Lol, I actually have seen smoke from xmod tires...
A tire was rubbing the rear A arm (on my gen 1- not on prupose). It's got li-ions with a 33T. At full throttle (in the air) I saw a small puff, but it might have just been rubber/dust (yes, it ate quite a bit off the tire).

As far as spinning the tires ridiculous amounts, any hot motor w/li-poly's will do.

I think the link to that motor winding guide is dead (tear for MZW's site). I haven't made a tut because it would take several hours (that I don't have, lol)- sorry.

Back on topic, is it bad to cut off the capacitor to open the motor? the radioshack motors have a capacitor soldered onto the case that im gonna have to cut to open it.

No problem, just leave enough of the lead so you can solder it back on.

Re: HandWound motors

cut the solderd end on the can, but be sure to resolder it when you goto use the motor again. the cap is there to filter out the electrical noice created by the arc in the motor.

Re: HandWound motors

dry ice+water+small container with 2 outlets+small tubes to the back tires= ;)

Re: HandWound motors

Since everyone else has pointed it out, can I just add that this idea is the lamest lame that ever lamed?

Xmod burnouts...heh.

I do remember seeing this...powder that one could rub between their hands in order to create a cloud of smoke- perhaps something like that coated on the wheels? Or red phosporous > (thats the stuff they make match head out of)

Yea, and light your xmod on fire from the sparks in the motor, or maybe the battery connections, or the intense friction from tires. Just make sure you get us a video.

Re: HandWound motors

lol, you can leave the rubber marks from the tires spinning on some surfaces. but sorry, no smoke lol. unless you want to get technical, and make a tiny smoke machine out of some simple things...

Re: HandWound motors

I mean, I can *fake* a burnout by painting on the drift tires (so when they spin paint rubs off) but I want SMOKE! lol

Re: HandWound motors

ok, i dont take post count into my responses. in there is a link on one of the comment i believe on a site that explains it.

the likely hood you will get actual smoke, is unlikely. a burn out happens when the resulting heat from the friction of the tire spinning on the road actualy burns the rubber... Xmod tires being so small and thin, wont build up the nessacary heat to melt the tires. now you can leave rubber marks, and pile up some rubber dust, but i havent seen these things burn rubber yet.

all though it would be so damn cool

with a 6 cell, i doubt it, with Li-Ion batteries, not sure, with Li-Poly's, well theres maybe a chance. but your gonna need a motor to handle them, and keep the tires on the rim too, which is the biggest problem.

Re: HandWound motors

I did, and I read it before making this topic- That post is about motors, not on how to actually do it. That is why I am asking these questions here.

Do not mistake a low post count for a neophyte- I realize that stickies are there for a reason, and I try to read them first becuase generally, they are more informative than posts from other members.

Another thing that I forgot to mention- I am running radioshack rechargable batts...will that make my quest for a burnout harder? The car i wish to make burnout has a 6cell mod though....

Re: HandWound motors

notice the thread that says "all about motors"
