About a year or so ago I had some neo magnets specialy made for 180 motors. Problem was that the magenets were ever so slightly to thick. At first I though they were to strong but it turned out the armature would slightly rub against the magnets. I just stuck them back in the box and forgot about them.
Today for some reason I thought about them and about the 170 armature I had laying around. A 170 is about same length as a 180 but the rotor dosn't extend out as far to the magnets. So I did a crapy winding job on the 170 armature, 15 turn (havent winded a motor in a while). Installed ball bearings in the 180 can along with the neo magnets,130 end cap and large commutator. Worked like a charm everything fit with no rubbing. Didn't have any new brushes so I poped open a old motor and used those. My 10 amp lipos were not fully charged but on the dyno in a 1st gen xmod it did 31mph (11 tooth) with crazy torque. With a better wind job and new brushes properly broke in im sure it would do better. Ill atleast fully charge the batteries and see what it does, ill have to wait for brushes.
This is a 15 turn motor and it was pulling around .8amp @ 4.8volt and .9amp @ 7.5 volt no load. This is similar amperage pull to a 33 or so turn 130 motor but this has more torque. I wonder what 10 turns or less would do on a full charge.
Ive always wanted a neo 180, along with all the upgrades from a 130, the 180 has more power than a 130. Its a shame none of the vendors build 180s pluse it sucks that the evo cant use them. well just thought I would share a little of what Ive been doing today.
After I settle on the final specs and if I can round up some more 170 armatures, I may build some of these for sale.
I may end up installing the 170 rotors onto 180 shafts though...right now im useing the whole 170 armature except for commutator, the shaft barely extends out of the 180 can so the pinion barely makes it on the shaft. It works though and the pinion stays on.
Haven't had a chance to mess with it lately but when I get some new magnet wire and brushes I will rebuild it for more speed. At the moment It has nice performance though toping out at 31mph, does it in a hurry too.
Next time I think I will go with 28awg wire instead of the 30 it has now and 9-10 turns. Maybe high 30s to 40mph with that and crazy torque.
man i would love to have a super fat 180 motor i would try to wind the motor up again with 9 turn as i think u have too much torque try get a balance to make your car work
and you shoud have some nice car as i know a 180 motor can provide the power you need to make the xmod screem
