Ok i have a skyline, and im currently working on making it the best car the world has ever seen lol. I will putty it to fix scratches, make an openable hood, and trunk, and give it a nice metalic silver coat of paint. Im planning to make a 5th cell, in the stunk, disquised as a bottle of NOS, some neon lightning in the trunk, for lights, and make all 4 of the rear light work.
please let me know what you think so far.
before snading to putty the car

After sanding

and my parts (also after after sanding)

and yes that is a carbonfiber hood, it comes in a body upgrade pack.
also if you noticed a black square on the original hood, thats me making a functional air scoop.
the finished thing is suppost to look like my signature.
my bad, im not doing that
meh im doing that, im painting today and the car looks smooth enough to me.
walmart is where i get my 800 and 1500 grit sandpaper its usually near the touchupp paint
also what is this premier thing, and is it really that nescessary?
i puttied where i wanted to putty, it looks good, the putty dries white, u cant see anything on pics. lol onto the painting
ok ive been to home depot and got some 2 component epoxy paste (putty) the "goop" brand, its says it works on plastic, and is sandable, so it should work. Also the guys at tha store told me that you can thinn acrylic paints with water. i just want your opinion on that, because i dont think its that simple, and i really REALLY dont want to screw up somewhere along the way AGAIN! Im not going to school tomoro, cuz the class has a trip, and im not going, so il have the whole day to putty and paint my car. Updates coming soon :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
ok, il have to put this on hold until the next trip to home depot. I have got the wrong putty again then i called my parents friend who is like a know it all. He told me exactly what to get... and im getting it when i get to home depot. Also i got and airbrush and tried with water, and its SO AWESOME im so phsyced right now.... the instructions said, that i have to thinn the paint (testors paint - testors thinner) where can i get the thinner?
i already said i live in a town far away from hobbyshops, and ather sorts of shops that arent like a wide spread set. also, i got the closes thing to sandable putty i could, its sort of like what they use to fix tiles. update coming soon, if the putty thing thing works out.
oh they exist. Try any auto parts store, or anywhere else they sell Body working supplies.
600-1500 grit? i didnt think they existed that fine. but ye ok, once i find them, il sand more
k wen ur done with ur 20 u need to move to 600. then once done sanding with 600 move on to 1000-1500. it makes ur paint turn out so so so so much smother
its just that i had a lot of bumps and scratches in the car, and those patches of silver are the scratches sandpaper cant get into, those scratches are being puttied right now.
im not sanding the inside of the hood, i see no point, and the body has been sanded with progressively finer sandpaper ranging from 80grit to 200grit (trust me its thmooth)
More sanding to do buddy boy  Wat grit sandpaper you used?
It looks pretty rough

UPDATE-not really though
I have fitted the carbon fiber hood on the hinge (it was really hard due to the air damper) I have made the hinge in a way that i can screw it off, for changing hoods. I think it looks awesome. Im going to get an airbrush today, and hopefully putty that dries to a sandable finish (wallmart better have it!!!) I will probably spend some time puttying the gaps, and getting it perfect, and then il paint my car. So... il show what it looks like when im done, but it might take a while.

I know exactly what you are talking about, however im not that much of perfection person, and the trunk has pissed me off very bad for the past 2 days, so i prefer to leave it as it is. It still looks good, and performs really good, i see no reason to change it. I dont rally need to open the hood that far either, as long as i can manipulate a bottle of nos (which i can) in there its fine. Thanx for the advice though. :)
have a little peice of stiff plastic and glue it onto the end of the hinge. observe how a REAL full scale trunks hinges are like, then apply that knowedge to making extensions to the hinge
it should look like an "L" on the part attatched to the trunk
PICTURES!!!!!!!!!
THE WIRES

HOW FAR IT OPENS

it still opens not all the way up, however it is about triple of what it used to open before so..... overall i am pleased :D
ok thankx, I also found a solution for my hinging problem, the hood opens and closes almost perfectly, i just need to putty all the gaps, and the solution was the simpliest thing in the world. instead of making hinges, and other creative devices, i just glued on those bendy wires they use to close bread packs with. works really nice :D :D :D :D :D :D :D i dont have pics of it yet, but coming soon
you should use a money order... for the gap you should try to find some putty.. even if its spackling putty(my friend used it on all of her cars) putty around the trunkand sand it until it fits again...
just helpen out thats all
perhaps, if i dont come to either fixing or trashing my body before i convince my parents. That trunk is really pissing me off
money orders work just as good...longer wait thou
TY, but i dont hav credit card and parents dont trust internet transactions, so if i get anything, it will have to be from a store. I know the skyline trunk is hingeable, i did it, im just having trouble with it.
here is a web site for some hinges...http://www.xmodsinternational.com/UK_STORE_MISCPARTS.htm
what I use for glue or such...I use either a fiberglass resin or a good epoxy...just make sure the bar plastic is roughed up before applyen
you cant hinge the scion trunk be cause of the rear bumper mount. the Skyline on the other hand is hingable

Ty 4 the website. I couldnt have put the hinge in the other way, it would have createdan even bigger gap, and the hinge's position wasnt the problem in the first place. The hinge was hitting the windshield of the car, and if i mooved it forward more, it would create an even bigger gap. Anyway screw the hinge, i aready used for somthin else. Tha custom hinge that i invented worked really well, it just that they kept breaking and if i were to make them bigger they wouldnt fit in the car. So yea, i gave up on that. Im totally fresh out of ideas.......please help
here is a web site to help ya out on the interior...http://www.scaledreams.com/KEN'S.HTM
It might seem like a simple thing, but it looks like you glued the hinge backwards onto the trunk. If you had flipped it over, the range would have been bigger, like your hood.
If you look @ yer hinges, I think you might see that depending on how you attach them, 1 way opens to a 45 degree angle...and the other way will give you 100+ degrees.
It's hard to explain and I am not even 100% sure I am right, but I think you inverted the hinge and limited your range. Simply flipping it over, if I am right, should fix your "trunk opening a little bit only" problem.
t3n
Oh yea and i cutted with a fixed blade cutter (X-acto knife)
I have took off the trunk since i got a new idea. I was going to go call the school (since i was sick for the past 3 days and stayed home) when i stumbled over a car because my room is messy. I picked up the car and say a perfect design to open my trunk. Il probably finish making it today since im home. I drew the design in paint check it out.

Everything matches up PERFECTLY. like, if first look at it, it liiks like the stock screwd in hood. i sanded the inside of the hood ,where the hinge is, down a lot so that the hinge sinks in and the hood matches up perfectly. Im having major trouble on the trunk though. It doesnt match up to the rear windshield, and it only opens a centimeter. I used the very same hinge, except i glued it into the trunk making it permanant. I could still get it off , but i need help on the hinging, cuz the one im using, clearly doesnt work. please help....
THE GAP

Gluing on inside (trunk is black)

HOW FAR IT OPENS

I am now thinking on using doublehinges like these ones, but i have no idea where to get them besides internet. (sorry for whoever's picture i used) pic 9b ilustrates it best
http://www.xmodworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=20467
yea it looks like the way u did it the hood will b a little higher up in the front and not flush like stock
The hood looks nice. But when it's closed, do all the lines match up, or is it a little off center? That's when you know it's a real good job, is when everything matches, and you can still open/close it. ;)
also i live in a location with no hobby stores around. the closest one is an hour and a half drive away. :(
the whole car was sanded previously, the windows, thats not the original black paint, and the windows have scratches all over them. I need to putty the whole car, including the windows, so when i was sanding i thought, meh y not sand the windows too.
Here in Maple (canada) i could not find modeling putty so i got this putty pencil thingamajiger. All it is, is dry putty in a shape of a pencil. You smere all over the scratches, then wipe it off with a cloth. Whatever got into the scratches you cant wipe off and it stays there, fixing the scratch. Because you wipe it off you cant really see it, but trust me it works.
Also i have made the hood openable, let me know what you think.

If i were you I would take off the lip from the front bumper

One thing I want to know is why did you sand the windows?
instead of fuzzy paper...you could go to a hobby shop and buy what they call flocking....use standerd elmers glue with a fine hobby style paint brush and brush the glue on....then take the flocking and put it in a salt shacker then shack it on. Be even more creative and use different color and make a pattern...or a symbol in the trunk. Flocking looks more to scale then "fuzzy paper".
what did you use to cut?
you could have also masked the windows first before sanding
Ok UPDATE
i have cut out the trunk and made the inside for it, i will cover the inside with fussy paper to create sortof like what they have in real cars. It is transparent at the moment, and there is a lot of glue on the other side so you might not be able to make out the geometry.

ye, im working on it now
also, im done cutting out the trunk, posting pics soon
you still have more sanding to do in the detail work.
man ur lucky u could cut out ur trunk these a piece right there on my evo i think
its not completely dead, the actual car still works, just not very good, and you can buy a separate body and stick it on it. Also i just thought of this, if anyone wants to make an xmod look and behave old, like form the 1930 or somthing il sell my car to you, without the body, that part is trashed.
*bump* for DS11
quote="DS11"]oh i sort of crapped it up, well not really, i did exactly what i planned to do, but then it turned ot horrible, like the trunk and the hood wouldnt close, extremly thick coat of varnish, body became really heavy and the car wouldnt move very fast, the car itself is very old and doesnt move very fast witout the body either, and now the body cracked in half, and fell apart, i wanted to get the light kit out, but i forgot it was superglued in and broke that too. So i just got a new car acura nsx yellow. they dont selll xmods in canada anymore so mow im trying to find the light kit for it in the interenet. alos i noticed that xmods rnt sold anywhere that much anymore, are they not making them anymore for good? I really need the 350Z though.
R>I>P> Skyline
