Ok guys, I was busy for a couple of days, and I also didn't have a camera to take pics; I just got a new camera today and things have calmed down so here's my 3rd xmod truck project.
This is what I started with: '84 GMC truck

The Chasis: F-150 xmod chasis with a few mods

Servo motor mod: HS-50 servo used with custom spur gear and on/off switch option

Functional winch: mirco servo used (cheaper brand) with custom spool and on/off switch also

And finally, since I had already started some work on it I just thought I should post the 1st project pic now:
I widened the wheel wells, added a custom windshield visor, and working on the rest of the custom offroad side flares

More progress pics to come soon.
Thanks for your suggestion jollyboss -To do all that would cost quite abit and at this scale it's not worth it - I rather leave all that muti-functioning stuff for my 1/10 TLT-01 based crawler (future project for this year). It's functions fine even though it has to be switch manually but the concept is still there and it's functional ( just my 2 cents).
sure!
I told you this cuz I've in mind(and already boght almost all Electronic stuffs I need)to make a Mustang GT with:
Openable hood&doors
Hydrolic-simulated front and rear
front/rear lights, neon and separate left/right indicators, all controlled by TX(I have an F14 bought for few)
Actually, just shove some gen1 ep in, their so compact. and make a short antenna (use mongo's tut for the shortest length) and wire your front winch

IMO if you're going to add functions you should mount different electronics to allow you to control those function from TX.Of course you'll need a new multifunction tx and it would be a different model, but the result will be better.
just my 2cents

Finally! A scale winch! :P

Thanks guys!
@nitemeer - I used a small paint brush to paint it black - it's kinda chipped up for now because i was doing all that work on the chasis but i'll repaint most it black again soon.
@xmodkidd - the visor os from aluminum sheet and the flares are hand molded from tamiya quick type epoxy putty. the rims are custom made and they are fitted with Aoshima swampers. ( you could get bought from an Aoshima model kit which runs around $18-$25 a Kit)
Looks amazing so far. I really like the visor and fender flares. Did you just use sheets of aluminum for them? Also, where did you get the wheels on the chassis? they look like they would be perfect for my Hummer.
Thanks guys!
Here's 2 more short vids of the GMC in action.
This vid is pretty short but it just shows the truck pulling itself out of a dirt hole using the winch, both the wheels and winch is running at the same time.

And this vid is just to show how it handles on the rough terrain.

Thanks for watching and I hope you guys enjoyed it.
Awesome. I like how you remounted the on off switch for the winch inward insteaqd of straight up like before. and then painted it. Looks sweet
Thats amasing! I gotta try something like that.
love the winch. so powerful!
Wow... 8O
That just looks...FANTABULOUS. :D
The winch is rediculously cool.
Very, very, very nice job...awesome paint.
~Junk ET
The switch is very very very clever :P
Im speechless again

Sheesh, I am starting to feel like a slacker, LOL!
Very nice man, I can always count on just checking your posts to see some of the nicest custom work in RCs today!
Jeez dont get that exited Edit your words plz... I can't stang to see the "Eff" word with only one letter blanked out

WOW!!! That's f***ing AWESOME!!! Keep up the good work!!!
Thanks for all the cool comments and suggestions I really appreciate guys!
It's finally complete!! I had to do alot more last minute stuff due to unforseen mishaps. I blew the servo for the winch plus I also manage to burn out the micro switch too after doing some independent test on the winch. Luckily for me I had a spare HS-55 servo around so I replaced the damaged one and I also replaced the micro switch (which is still in the same spot btw). I also added a skid plate, did all the last paint touch ups and inserted a partial interior. The reason for the partial interior was because I had too much wires taking up space inside the cab so i was only able to fit the 2 seats, the dashboard w/ steering wheel plus the driver ( I had to cut his legs below the knee just so he could fit :/ )
Here's the final pics and a few short video clips to show you guys that the winch is functional:
Here's the short video clips:
Pulling from a high stand point (with support so it doen't flip over)

Pulling from a cliff like point of view (no support on this one)

Pulling 2 trucks at once with winch ( standing still)

And pulling all 3 trucks stacked ontop of each other

I hope you guys enjoyed it! I'll try to make another short vid of it in action - it's really slow so i'll have to figure out a good way to make it entertaining!
thats awsome man never thout bout using a servo lol
Thanks for the comments guys!
Just a few more updates: I've finished mounting it on the chasis, I rewired the winch with an even smaller micro switch, I also positioned the winch switch in the back, and I added the d-hooks on the front bumper. Here's the pics:
I still have to add the LEDs, install and hook up the winch, do the custom interior ( I might have to amputate the driver's feet due to limited space in the cab), add a custom skid plate, and then I have to do the final paint touch-ups. I might have forgot something else but it will come up alone the way. More to come soon!
im diggin the hooks them are sweet :!: :!: :!:
WOW VERY REALISTIC> GOOD WORK ON THE DETAILS

Wow! Thing looks even sicker now! I love the detail.
Here's some updated pics - nothing much but a few additions to the body itself. I've been busy at work so I couldn't finish it up but hopefully it should be done during this week. I added some back hooks for chain support and some cargo hooks to secure stuff in the bed, I also added a mock antenna ( maybe attach it later to be functional) and I also installed the grill and front bumper already. more stuff tocome soon:
Woah, you da Man!!
Sweet. Just awesome. Loving the paint. commented it on rcc also
VERY COOL
Thanks for all the comments guys!
I finally got the body paint scheme finished, I even had some time to make a custom snorkel for it too. There is a few tiny little touch-ups that is requires but I have to wait until everything is completely dry. Just to make it clear - i'm still not done with this project - there's alot of other stuff that will be added to it plus I still haven't mounted it yet either. All the pics you'll see are just a MOCK SET-UP.
Before pic:

After pics:

and just a close up look at the custom snorkel and driver:

More updates to come soon!
Nice!!, the paint came out really smooth, I know you havent finish but its too dull for me. :)
i kno u say ur not done yet but i dont kno if its in ur plans to do this but i would think it would look good if you painted thoes wheel well things black.
i personally use testors because no where actuallly has tamiya paints here...
Looking good man. Keep it up... 8)
Three words - NOT DONE YET! lol
@Dodgeman - thanks!
4 LETTERS P-I-M-P
Two words - BLACK PINSTRIPING.
Thanks for all the comments guys!
Here's some more pics of the second stage for the paint scheme:
masked off the design here:

after a few coats of Metallic Blue and a clear coat also:

And the final part of stage 2 - the results so far:

Now all that's left is the custom hand painted grahics and I should be done with that part. This one should be pretty unique and i'm definately hoping it turns out the way I have in mind. More pics to come soon!
you going to leave the fender flares silver? I'm not sure, but I think that with the right paint that would look pretty cool. Might give it more of a heavy duty look...
You and me both.
But, it looks good, silver looks good on that body. Can't wait to see the final outcome. ;)
No - I HATE TESTORS! This is Tamiya spray paint - it's the only paint I ever use on my projects.
If thats testor silver, be carefull with the tape. I had a problem with that... And the shiny top coat peeled off and left a nasty gray under coat.
Well I got started on the 1st part of the paint scheme - the silver. I'm just letting it dry off fully before I spray the other color on and then after that is dry it will be time to add some custom hand-painted graphics.
Here's the project at the fisrt stage of painting:
I also did a new bed since I had to cut out the bottom of the original due to clearance and mounting issues I was having before. I used an entire different bed flooring to replaced the one I cut out. More progress pics to come soon.
The gap on mine is screwy because the bed sides arent equal, I gave up on trying to sand it down, I need some more dremel wheels before I try remounting it.
But the gap on one side is like || roughly, and articulate fine with out catching

Well it's kinda took late to try that with this project. I did look at video on youtube of a toyota hilux that had the bed articulate with the rear axle of the xmod - it look ok except for the gap that he had between the bed and the cab - it was too far apart IMO.
Maybe you wanna try articulating the bed like I did? I dont want to be the only one
I dig that sun visor and flares, it looks sweet

Look in the GENERAL section over there: http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=66
I have a most of the new project posted over there  .
Looking good, I can't wait to see how this turns out. Do you ever post this in the scale section on Rccrawler. I go there for my 10th scale crawlers so I think they would like to see these
Hey guys, sorry for taking so long to update this one. I've been busy with my job and i have also been doing some other project on the side for a customer too.
Anyways, here's what I did so far:
I've widened the wheel wells and added the fender flares on all 4 sides already. I just need to sand them alittle bit more for that smooth look then i have to work out how to mount the rear clip in place. I have also removed the winch from the chasis and will be placing it under the hood of the model itself - this is due to an additional feature that will be added soon.
Here's a couple pics of it so far:
The winch is going to be placed under the body after the paint job is completed.
Just a Mock set up of the body on the chasis - no mount clips are on there at this moment.
More updated to come soon!
yes,I have 4 micro servo, one multi logic kit that can control 4 function with 1 channel, and a 6 ch micro receiver....work should start at beginning 2008...I hope!
I'm sure that there's several ways you can probably add stuff to make it work but it's more hassle and requires more space to be taken up not to mention more added weight. The way I did mine is that winch and the servo motor both have an on/off switch so that it can function realisticly ( even thought I have to turn it on/off manually).
To do normal driving - the winch is off and the servo is on. To pull stuff at a stand still - the winch is on and the servo motor is off ( the tires offers grip and form stance support). To pull yourself out if you get stuck - both winch and servo motor is on (the winch wheels in while the truck drives foward)
I might do short clip of how it functions just so you guys can see it - More updates to come soon.
All you would need would be a second board/receiver with a different frequency crystal. Just switch the crystals in the controller if you want to control the truck or winch.
WOW - sounds very promising!! I don't see myself going all out in the electronic division - it's not really something I like to fool around with but it's something i'm definately gonna be doing later (just on a larger scale. On the turn signals - I already have plans drawn up on paper on how to do that with out the need of separate channels/rx and all that - it's as simple as wiring a flashing LED circuit board and a few wires plus a few other little things that will interact with the steering. I always look for a cheaper and simplier route that can be done with the out braking the bank.
Now for the opening doors, hood and hydrolic system I assume you'll be using a multi-channel controller/receiver and several micro servos to acheive those effects right? If not I would definately be intregue to see your set-up plans!
Now back to topic - I still working on the last side flares for the rear anad after it cures i'll be sanding and shaping it up abit more with my trusty lil dremel. I'll post pics when i'm finished with those.
