Basic Rules for Racing

I have never raced R/C before so I am trying to understand how races are done.

Do you typically race for a set number of laps? I have seen some rules that state races are for a set time period. How does that work?

How long is a typical Xmod race?

TIA

Re: Basic Rules for Racing

its usually just a few of us and in the past the races werent really heated. if you flipped you simply went and flipped your own car back over losing whatever time it took you. now on our new track (and now that every ones getting pretty good) we have a lot tighter races. basically if you casue a caution (by flipping or running some one off the track  ) then you go to the end of the line and we restart lined up in the order we were in. the only reason we do this is to get every one right next to each other. even if the race is lopsided or some ones running away or falling behind, they get/have to race with every one on restarts

we arent big time enought to have people flip our cars  but maybe someday.

the local radioshack guys keep telling us they are going to come race sometime, but they havnet yet. im trying to get them involved so we can get a community thing going on. i think this would be great for some of the kids around here. not to mention its a great way for us adults who havent grown all the way up to play too :D

we have all kinds of rules and make them up as we go. weve just started doing cautions (like nascar) when a car flips or gets stuck on the track. as long as every one is playing by the same rules, it doesnt matter what they are :D

You got it. Rules are to make it fun and fair.

cautions are cool.

Competition races that I have seen would have a few people stationed around the track to get stuck and flipped cars going again, no stoppages of any kind. If the car was dead, it would be removed from the track.

Re: Basic Rules for Racing

If you are racing on your own track, make up your own rules. Depending on length, do 5, 10 or 20 lap races.

Racing by yourself? then do a timed race. 5 minutes or less. Count your laps, and try to get more laps in each time. Race against yourself.

Re: Basic Rules for Racing

Thanks for the info.

I tried that but it looks like if I am going to be doing any racing around here I will be starting from scratch. I don't think anyone races Xmods around here. If they do I have been unable to find them.

There is a local indoor R/C track that operates part of the year but I have been unable to contact anyone associated with it. The rules on their web site are kind of vague. I am not even sure what class they have that is comparable to Xmods (I am a total r/c noob).

I built a small concrete track (15'x8' or so oval) but I don't really know how to run a race on it. What are the pros/cons to running a set number of laps vs a timed event? How many laps/minutes are adequate for an Xmod race?

Thanks!

Re: Basic Rules for Racing

It varies from track to track...consult your local track for catagories and race lengths.
