 How can I get more performance out of my xmod, for under $10.00.

Re: Cheap Speed

for me, it was just a bum board. it's wired properly, so i know it's not that. gotta pay to play.

Re: Cheap Speed

I don't know about the rest of the people here, but my 6cell cars have never had a problem as long as I let them cool down between runs. The speed did almost double. If you've wired it wrong, it usually won't even work. I found that out by mistakenly reversing the wires on my deans plug. In my opinion, 6cell IS the cheapest speed increase available. Now it's time to step up to LITHS!!!

Re: Cheap Speed

images for the lesser inteligent ppl
what NOT to do:

you're shooting amps throught the wires, switches, motors, and all electric components doing nothing but making it have a longer run-time.
here's the RIGHT WAY diogram:

this increses the volts and speed.

use your brain!

I'v heard that the 6 cell upgrade doesn't make it faster, it just makes the car run longer.

What do yall think?

Yeah. They put-in resistors from the battery case so that it doesn't FRY the whole ****ed Xmod! (Censorship keeps me from swearing my head off LOL) So, yeah. Crzystang is RIGHT. Anyone who thinks else is probably WRONG.

in case this isn't sarcasm, i feel the need to make a correction here.

simple resistors won't keep the voltage level when adding more cells. no way, no how. you'd have to have a controller circuit in order to do that. it's just not feasable with something as small and simple as an xmod to add power regulation. also remember that these cars were designed to run on 4 AAA batteries only. 5/6/7 cells and liths are pushing our lusk with these EPs. i have an EP sitting here that fried at the site of 6 cells.

to add things to the list of cheap upgrade:

*bearings- these can be found cheap secondhand, especially with gen ones
*run dry bearings- you clean the bearings with something like automotive brake cleaner to remove all oils and dirt
*hybrid motor- spinbrush hybrids seem pretty popular. don't be afrad of mixing motor parts to find a good combo
*get rid of even the slightist resistance in the chassis. less resistance means less power used overcoming the resistance, so the power move the car instead

everything there can be done for less than $10. i bought a whole lot of gen ones with several RS upgrades for about $60, and that was just as the evo was being released, so you could still buy gen-ones and parts in the stores.

Re: Cheap Speed

water dip your motor during break in = free
bamboo driveshaft=6$ nail polish for bamboo strength ans thickness and bamboo stick
drem out the sinside of your body= free
oill the bushings= free
run energizer or duracell quality batteries=$3.50
buy a gumball=50 cents

now while your enjoying that gumball and the free speed pass this idea on to others who either like gum alot or want some eaaaassssyyy speed later dude, peace

Tamiya 4wd motors won't fit in xmods right away, you have to follow this tut:

http://www.woahnelly.com/plasmatomic/tutorial.htm

Like it said, you can also buy the motors here for about the same price:

Re: Cheap Speed

Max, are you saying that a 6cell doesnt make it faster? If so you're completely wrong. Like mongo said, more voltage = more speed.

And he is looking for cheap upgrades, atomicmods is not cheap.

I think that whoever told you that is wrong and does not know what he is talking about.

More voltage = faster speed. Just do not go above 7.2V so you do not fry the electronics.

or go to www.atomicmods.com/ they have some good motors, and ball bearing cans, witch will help rule out unwanted friction with your current motors. A bb can and a 6th cell will give you a nice boost in performance. thats what i did b4 i got my lithiums.

with my experience, way faster, but the 2 extra cells seen to drain faster, idk, but i might have bad wiring, but speed is almost doubled. great mod, with minimal soldering skill

6 or 5 cell.

You could also get a motor from one of the reviews at www.pimpmymod.com. Try the tamiya torque tuned.

Re: Cheap Speed

6 cell upgrade

rough estimate:

wire-$6
battery case-$1
connectors(optional)-$2
total = $9 roughly...

of course you need soldering stuff though...
