if i strip out all of the current xmods battery holders and battery mounts, mount 2 cr2 batterys ( 3v and half the size of a AA battery) and also mount a aaa battery, this would give me a total of 7.2v. It would also be very light possibly lighty than a lithium kit. i am just wondering if anyone can spot any downsides to this idea, i am aware that cr2 batteries are only around 350mah..
It's a bad idea.
The cells will not discharge in the same way.
Those cells that you are using suck for discharge rate.
THe motor will pull the amps it needs, if this is over the safe recomended amp draw of the batteries, they will be damaged.
Read any manual for any item that takes batteries. They all have a warning. NEVER MIX BATTERY TYPES.
All batteries in the pack must be identical. All cells must have the same characteristics and specs.
and the low discharge rate doesnt seem to be a problem. i have tried 1 camera cell instead of a 6 cell mod and it seemed to last forabout 20 mins before any serious change in performance
Camera cells are meant for long life...so very low discharge rates are the norm.
It would be lighter but you would probably dump all your current in a minute or so.
It's just not a good idea to be mixing different types of batteries. Also, your batteries, being smaller than AA's, must have low discharge.
It's mAh by the way.

if they were all the same MaH would it work?
I agree with tex.....not a good idea.

It will cause one to start charging the other, and eventually their just gonna start puking battery acid as time goes on.

but surely the diffrent ampage of the batterys doens matter, and the power diffrence is not critical i dont think,,
Mixing different battery types isnt a good thing. Thats the main reason.
