Think this is a good deal? I got a 1/8th electric rustler with extra set of tires(no rims) for $30. Only bad things were it had a broken front servo(couldnt turn at all) and no remote. I fixed that all in one. I have a extra remote from my nitro car, and a extra servo.Switched the servo in and that was fixed, took the remote crystal and switched it in the reciever and now this remote was controlling the car. :) fixed! All i need is a battery charger which will be $30 at hobby tron. Good deal? The car is in mint condition. Not even really a spec of dirt on it. Looks like it was raced indoors. Tell me what you think :) I'll upload a picture later when im not lazy.
Cool! I got a better deal though! A mint Rustler for free. Only problem is its the MSC version. Oh well.
Same as his. And if you got it for free, I'm assuming it was the old XL1 version? (All black plastic, instead of grey/black mix.)
[quote:b202f0cc20="ohsnapimadude"]This one lasts for like 15 mins run time. Duratrax 6 cell 1500mah. So i guess if i get a 3000mah battery i'll get a good half an hour out of it.
That all depends on how you drive, and what rate you charge your batteries at. The higher the Amps that you charge at, the shorter lifetime the battery will have for that run, but the more "juice" it will be willing to "let go" to get you to go faster.
If you charge a 3000mAh battery at 0.8amps, you'll probably get a good 20-30 minutes out of it. You charge it at 3.0ams, you'll get 5-10 minutes but really good speeds.

Buy one or two of these, they are great batteries:
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXMJG0&P=MLYou think you're going fast with that little 1500mAh pack...Wait til' you hit the 3000mAh range.
Also, I'd suggest searching around Ebay for a ESC instead of an MSC. Traxxas MSCs aren't the greatest things in the world. Plus, you won't have to have the extra weight from the extra batteries for you ESC, as you would for an MSC.
Yeah i'll definitely be looking into a better battery. I had a bad experience with tower hobbies so i order from hobbytron.com or i go to the local RC shop around the corner :) I plan on getting a new battery for sure though. This one lasts for like 15 mins run time. Duratrax 6 cell 1500mah. So i guess if i get a 3000mah battery i'll get a good half an hour out of it. I think i'll end up getting 2 3000mah batteries as i hate when i run out of batteries. Another reason why i love my nitro buggy. But this is fun during the night when my neighbors are willing to call the cops.

You should check out the traxxas forum. There is guys on there who have mamba max Rustlers that have gone over 90MPH on speed runs.
Have fun, these trucks are great, but can get costly for sure.
Did a quicky of a paint job on the body since it was so ridiculously ugly. The coat looks really nice except for the highly needed touch ups around the windows. Would've been nicer if he didn't do such a shitty job on the windows in the first place.

Oh I also mounted my own battery pack inside on top of the receiver. So it doesn't fall out again. I used Velcro pads that are adhesive. So it sticks tight to it and if i need to remove it for battery change. I can :) Thing is...i had no other way to mount it since the wire was so short for it and i REALLY didnt wanna extend it so this solution was perfect. :P
Found out something very interesting XD If i throw in a mamba brushless motor with a larger battery i can hit 60mph! That's 10mph faster then my nitro buggy >.> I'm tempted to mod this thing now find that it has a large aftermarket in upgrades.
Well i fixed up the problem tonight :) I have the servos on a independant battery pack to increase battery run time instead of depending on the main battery pack. I fixed my throttle problem too! :D It was my fault XD The throttle trim was WAY off. It's a plain black controller and i couldn't find the little knob for it. I'm VERY happy i got it for $30. He didn't know how to fix it and lucky for me i do :)! Here's pics:

I know the body needs a paint job. I'll be doing a two tone basic black/red combo or just plain black tomorrow for it. The guy has a ugly paint job on it now as you can see. Let me know what you think :P
Oh i almost forgot to add...Tonight while i was testing it out. This thing is pretty damn fast for a electric! I think it hits 25-30 mph or so. I plowed right into my foot by accident...mind you im wearing sandals. I broke my toe nail half off and it was/is gushing blood. It felt like i broke my toe >.< Thing is....im SO glad this wasn't my 4x4 Nitro Ofna Ravager. I would've broken my ankle easily....well that's my story for the night.

A Mechanical Speed Controller is where a servo is used. It works like this: you have a servo that drives the arm of what is what people would call a potentiometer. When the servo pushes the link to the mechanical speed control forward, the resistance is reduced, and so the current running to the electric motor is increased and the vehicle goes faster. Make any sense?
This can be a major pain in the butt because the servo has to be centered at all times, or you will get a fast, slow, no idle, or negative idle (making you go in reverse.) Hence, why they came out with the ESC. Electronic Speed Controller.
Mechanical speed control? :? No wonder you got it a little cheaply. You should order an ESC like the XL5. Much less of a pain in yer' butt.
Mechanical speed control?? got pics?

Thanks. I charged it up today and tested it with a friends charger. It seems to be way off on the throttle trim so it's going as soon as you plug it in. and i dont know but it seems the battery doesnt hold a charge very well so im planning on grabbing both a charger and battery. Then reinstall the rear servo to make the throttle point at zero so it idles at a stop. Not a huge problem either way :)
Sounds like you gets yourself really good deal. You really can't beat that deal. Its hard to find reasonable price like that on the eBay or any else.
Good thing is thats you have spare parts you could replacement parts. Which thats pretty awesome. Congratulations!

Yeah mines the old version. But I also got the XL5 and have owned 2 Rustlers, and 1 Stampede before.
Most Wanted - Have you seen the charts/diagrams for peak, charge, and discharge on those batteries compared to others? I don't have them saved anymore on my computer (computer took a dump) otherwise I'd give you the direct links. Try to search for them, the difference is astronomical.
Also, I'm starting to see you more and more around the Traxxas Forum, Most Wanted.
-----------------------
ohsnapimadude - If you really want great performance, your best bet would be to go with IB or GP cells, but an even greater bet would be to buy the cells individually and build your own six/seven cell pack. That way you'll have better connections and a stronger pack. I'm sure you could find a tutorial on how to do it somewhere.
If you are going to look into batteries, I would recommend the IB4200 or GP4300, either one of those brands seem to be the best on the market according to the guys on the Traxxas forum.

I have the same rustler as that guy who got one for free. Anyways, i installed a independant rechargable battery pack for the servo's so it has even less pull on the battery for driving. I also installed a on off switch since the guy lost the old one or something -shrug- anyways i have 2 other batteries now and a 15 minute speed charger which made my run times alot better and charge times alot better. I used a 2400mah battery of my friends and it was a BIG difference in speed too! I definitely will eventually be getting like a 4000mah battery. I will eventually get a ESC when i have extra money. Though this is just a fun toy in between nitro car maitnence XD This car has 100% less issues then my nitro cars. Just not as fast or cool :P.
