Well, how'd you get into the hobby? I got hooked when all my rc's seemed to break all at once, so I tried putting them back together. Now I build rc's and race them for fun. How about you guys?

Re: How'd You Get Into The Hobby?

well lets see this will take some time to tell. back in 1998 my boss had a few different kinds of rc cars and he brought them to the shop i was working at and i asked him why he had so many and he said he did race them years ago. i didnt know anybody raced rc cars i said. and i wound up buying a used rc10 b2 from him and he told me that they still race them in dalton ga. inside an old carpet mill. they had a really nice track . but i lived about 2 hours away and only raced for about two months. it got to be to costely to race since i had a family and could not afford to do it anymore so i did not race any for a few years. a couple of years ago and got really big into tourning cars and spent way to much money and wound up haveing to sell everything to keep me from spending everything we have on racing. but a few weeks ago i found out about xmods and they are very afforadable. and cheap to upgrade. now i hope i can find somebody up here to race. i love racing rc cars it is a very bad sickness, but very fun!

Mustangs are good cars, don't mean to stray too far off topic, but what year?

Im looking for a black 2003 Mustang GT. My parents bought one brand new in 03, and I spent alot of time practicing to drive in, and thats also the car my dad died in. (he totalled it) I just want one because, I love the looks of it. Black, dark windows, with the factory gun metal rims, it looked sick! Im not really worried about building a fast car anymore. Ill still have my Civic. In a few years it may see some changes...K swap, new rims, slammed, never know. But as for the Mustang, I want something nice looking, its a car that I know alot about, and memories....

and RWD!!!!!!

Re: How'd You Get Into The Hobby?

I just got bored, and found this site some how. I ended up buying one, and realized it wasnt too fun. About another 6 months later I got bored, and found it in my closet, and then started working on it and got interested. Then lost interest for a few years. Once everything was discontinued and parts were like a dollar, I got back into it and bought an EVO Hummer. Im bored with it again now. Time to work on a real car again. Ive got a couple thousand saved up, and waiting to find a nice Mustang to buy.

Re: How'd You Get Into The Hobby?

I got a story too. Not a pleasant one.
I DESTROYED three of my xmods just from extreme everyday use. I have to make my own parts just to drive them.
My gen1 needs new steering knuckles, still drivable without.
My first evo, I dunno where it is, I think parts of it are in my gen1.
My evo truck is upgraded to 6 cell and stock everything else.

Re: How'd You Get Into The Hobby?

I was given an Xmod when at Christmas a few years ago. It was a Gen1 '65 Mustang. I also got the tool kit and the 01 Mustang (think that's the year). At the time I didn't like the 01, so I sold it to a friend. Now I really wish I didn't.
Shortly before the Gen1's were discontinued, I bought a new one because my range was fried in the old. That one was the '67 Camaro.
I was fine for a few months, then got bored with them and packed them away.
About half a year later I was cleaning my closet and I dug them out again, and decided to give them another try. I had a good time and started wondering what I could do to make them work better. During that time I was sitting downstairs using our old laptop to look up things on the Gen1's. Eventually I found this forum. That was back when this place was the best Xmod forum around. I started looking through the tutorials and was surprised by how many there were. I decided a short time later to sign up.
A while later I was taking my Xmod apart to change the motor and the battery wires came off. I took the Xmod apart to fix it, but the wires came off the board. Fixed those then saw that the servo wires came off. I wasn't good enough at soldering to fix it that well so I tried but they kept coming off. Eventually the Gen1 was taken apart and became a shelf chassis. The only upgrade I didn't have for it were the bearings.
A couple month later I got interested in the EVOs. First I got an EVO Titan, then a Hummer. When the Transformers came out I got both of them.
I recently bought one of the new(ish) '65 Mustang EVOs. Won't be doing much to upgrade it. I'm going to leave it stock for the most part.

Not really what got me into Xmods, more of a story of what these things went through.

Re: How'd You Get Into The Hobby?

Real cars got me in to R/C cars....

Actually, I saw an Xmod ad in a Radio Shack flyer, and I never had my own R/C car before then, my brother had a Tamiya TL01 he let me drive a few times, so I wanted my own, and I asked for a white Supra for Christmas, sure enough, I got one, and that's what launched me in to the micro R/C hobby.

The reason I wanted a white Supra is because my aunt had one (a real one), and I loved that car. So, real cars were the reason!
