Anyways, a whole new forum wouldn't be bad, I mostly fly RC's now.

I think having this place as a link for reference would be good as part of a "micro-rc" sub section but i think xmods themselves are too narrow a field nowadays...they were fun while they lasted but unless a new platform comes out it's unlikely to stay fresh and current.

It's hard to say how a new forum will be receieved though...in the grand scheme of things it's a tough time to start fresh when people have got more pressing matters to attend to. The economy's downturn has got people tightening their belts and discretionary income is becoming less free spending.

Id say start a whole new forum, but this one could stay up so people can look through the old posts for info. and have more sections. Have all sorts of R/Cs, photography, and real car sub forums.

I could send out a mass e-mail to everyone that's registered but I hate to do that unless there is REALLY something good to announce. I'm not sure that many people will be excited about these forums opening back up.

I'm working on a totally new site to replace this one that would be worthy of an announcements. I'm not sure if I should try to keep this forum going within the new site or make a new forum (but keep the old forum available).

Any suggestions?

I think it means we would have a chance. But after seeing all the forums locked for so long, I'm not sure if anyone is going to bother checking back here.

The upgrade didn't help, but I figured out a way to stop the spambots. It involved rewriting some of the code but it seems to be keeping them out but still allowing new users to register.

It's good to see this site may have a future to it again. After being here so long I can't just let it go.

Cowboy, I think that once your done rooting out the spammers, you should send a bulk email to everyone if this board has that feature.

The upgrade was done yesterday and the forums unlocked. Let's see if that will fix the spam problems.

I'm also planning a total overhaul but that's a big job. I've been experimenting with some new software but it's tough getting all the forums imported. We'll see how that goes.

We may be open for business again...kai ahs implemented an upgrade so we'll see if that cuts down on spammers.

I'll wait and see which of the new membership already joined are spammers so i can dlete them from existance.

Until further notice I've locked every single forum for new threads.

I cannot waste my time deleting multiple threads, users and ips every single time I come to visit. Just in the past two visits in a 24 hour period I've deleted 50+ threads and multiple ips/users names.

I've receieved word from kai that he plans on updating but until I get some feedback about when it's done I'll be leaving the site locked down until further notice.

I just don't have any time or money at the moment for firing up any of my xmods projects, the truck just got on the road and now it's working out the bugs..

I agree. The only new members we have had were for the buildoff and spammers. The only people still here are just us who have been around forever and don't want to see this place go.

And cowboy lets face it, your gonna hear nothing from Kai. The last time we heard anything was when the hackers put that virus in the code for the site and even then he didn't do anything about it. Another member took care of the problem. Even if you do get a hold of him, I doubt he'll care. He gave up on this website years ago. :cry:

And we can't kill it yet, I have to beat Mongo in post count. Or at least tie Texan. :lol:

Personally, I think it would be better not to allow new people to join then let them all be spammers. So many of the best ideas for Xmods were started here. It would be a shame to let them get buried in spam.

I don't want to let this place go, but I don't think there's really anything we can do now.

Well, in the past four days i've deleted over 60 threads and banned easily 40+ ip and member accounts...

I've tried to contact kai to see if he cares enough to get the membership filter updated.

I'm going to try one more time at contacting kai and if I don't hear anything soon I'll be giving up on this place. I can't speak for Mongo but I doubt he'll want to be the only one attempting to keep this place alive.

For those of you interested in keeping the xmodworld buildoff alive I suggest you take what information you have here and follow me to the other site most of you know I frequent. (again, I don't want any links to it here lest the spammers follow me.)

If you see a lot of threads around here that haven't been erased, it means I was unsuccessful at reaching kai and this place will be a spam town from then on...sorry. :cry:

I do have to agree, this place is dead. All the xmod action has shifted over to xmodsource. And I've really moved on. My xmods really don't get played with anymore. I've moved up to Traxxas and Losi, hobby grade stuff. Still havent ever gotten a mini-z, but thats next to go into my collection. But my xmods arent going anywhere. They are what got me hooked on this hobby and I have way too much time and money invested to sell them.

It's not dead until we all give up.

Fuckin hell, XMW is like an old truck. Even on it's death bed it still fights and clunkers on.

I've been working hard to delete all the shizen spam-a-lot but it's hard to stop when the membership filter test is from the Stone Ages...

Long story short, I'll do my best...but xmodding should be shown/performed on other sites.

If this continues, I'll be moving my xmodworld buildoff to another forum I admin at...I won't list it here but most of you know how to find it. :wink:

i see the same thing youre seeing. this forum is dead. i just came back to this site from a while ago expecting to be the same xmw i used to know but all that has changed.
