Today, while staying afterschool, I got my hands on some free shwag. And things I never knew Tamiya made. Gear boxes!
since, this gear box is technicaly straight axle, its gonna be a dragster. Each motor powers one side of the gear box, with one straight rod connecting them, so each side is equal speed.
but, i need a custom long chassie to fit this.
Just pictures, keep you guys guessing on the rest of my plan.

Painted the chassis flatblack, and made a V8 for it. Cut it up so it sits low in the chassis, but clears the tierod and enough for the servo.

Got it painted today, finally found what I want.
To encourage some badassness, and to separate from the normal high-glossyness, I went the right way...
FLAT BLACK
Its gonna get a bit of a dragracer treatment, since Ive lost some pieces like headlight, tail lights, and bumpers. So the head and tail lights will have covers, and Ive got the headlight ones in
The camera is making the paint appear very grainy :( But its so tight in person

The radio works great, I was testing it with the propulse last night. figured out that little knob is the turning radius.

Got my radio and reciever today from CowboySiR. He seems to always be my hook-up on here.. :lol:
It fits right in too;
But its gonna need a servo, sooo... since Im not worried about a low CG (its just going in a straight line) I can mount it side ways as well

SSMT Tires? Talon's aren't bad for traction, but if they start ballooning or get too much side bite, the tires tear at the end of the tread thing on the side...

Got some work done the past few weeks, or one, when ever school let out. Gotta chassis design working, but no pics really...
Gonna use a hobby grade rx tx and esc most likely. And probly gonna be from my favorite Canadian on here.

Blast, Ive been meaning to bump this for a long time. Havent forgotten about it, just playing around with chassie design. But I maybe able to score some free sheets of aluminum from my friends dad. Hes a metalologist? Something like that, companies goto him when they need to know whats the best material and such. My friend says that he could probly get me some sample plates for free. And those are just big enough to do the back section.
And I started some paint work on the body, if you look around else where, its in the BG of one of my pics. :wink: :wink: :wink: :wink: :wink:

The other colors were just red or black.
I got good news, and bad news.
Bad news is, I havent made any sort of progress recently......
Good news is, Ill start to have money, and the weather is warming up for painting. :) So this should start to make progress in a few weeks.

Got a color combo I like, tested it on my MP3 player.
2 coats black, 3-4 coats candy. Its a real deep burgundy. The red shows through in highlights in brighter light.

If I were you, I'd just wait for the weather to warm up. Wait and do it right instead of rushing it and screwing it all up. I have the same problem with my SUT. It stinks. :x
But, I like your color selection. I think it'll look nice. And seeing your painting skills on the Mustang, I think it'll turn out awesome! :)

I think your idea would look real cool. Weather been too cold here (25F high, and 4" snow today) to paint also. Very interested to see how it would come out though.

Sure. Where the hell is it explained the HTML format of posting and sizing pics here at xmodworld? At xmodrc you code the size in your post(ie. image width=500 will give you a specific size picture).

I have it down to a 5:1 reduction, xmods arent even that high are they? I dont have a built gen1 currently :lol:
Sweed, get one your Gen1s, and see what the reduction is on the motor pinion to the diff

Hey. I don't think that gearbox can achieve a ratio that will allow for much speed at the output. I owned one of those gear boxes. Yes, you can change around the gearing for multiple ratios, but it essentially goes from torquey, to super torquey. It never actually gives anything close to a 1:1 turn ratio.
I think this woulda smoked it. Even with one motor. :twisted: Haaa!

ok so their not the worst but they could b alot better made. lucky theres people lik atomic and the lik that produce after market parts 2 surpass the rs standard stuff. how fast do u think the dmx is gonna go? just ball parked.

As for the battery pack, its listed a few pages back. Li-po, 7.4v, 1500 mah? Something like that.
Xmods arent very cheaply made, trust me, theres crappier stuff out there :lol: Find me another shaft driven awd, fully independant suspension and propo controls on another small scale r/c car besides the miniZs

i read this about 1/2 a year ago, amazing how it started up again. i lik how u got the hobby class radio package. its gonna b alot easier in the long run lik u said. when u really look at it, xmods r a very cheaply made rc... but then again, for $25 and some fun times, who can complain? wats the chassis look lik these days? decided on a battery pack yet?
How would the upgraded 5 spoke rims look up front (DeCorsa's, I believe.)? It would keep with the sportster look, and won't look like bycicle wheels.

looks tight man, i like the flat black look, it adds the right touch to it to make it look like it'll stomp any car that gets in its way, nice dragster choice

Probally not, I dont want to deal with paints. Another reason its flat black is because the blue/white two tone underneath went bad, due to some old paint I had that clogged up, and sprayed like crap. Plus flat black is mas machos :lol:

Im not sure what to do for rims. I saw some foams on another Mini-Z, really wide ones. Theyd be perfect if I can find them on the web. Maybe do a red rim and white wall combo. Grab some 67 Camaro rims for the front, and paint the foam'd rims in rear.
