"TRM-2wdPX1"
Team Redmade Motors 2 wheel drive Pan Car. Prototype 1.
After reading through issues and issues of RCCA, and seeing all the pretty, complicated, carpet racing sedans, I decided to "mini-ify" a full on electric racing sedans adjustability, smooth ride characteristics, and precision handling. Mini-Z's tunabitlity is amazing, however, when this build is done, it will put a Mini-Z to shame. The design is simple. Pulling it off will test my skills to the max.
Enough of that blab, lets get down to the build, right! Okay, first off, since this is only chapter one, I won't be revealing too many of my secrets, setups, and designs. But I can reveal to you plan. The following is a list of the stuff I have now.
What I got:
XI aluminum chassis
http://www.xmodsinternational.com/USA_STORE_FRONT_GEN1TEAMXIALUMINUMRACI...
stock xmod (gen1) EP
stock xmod chassis (aside from the aluminum chassis)
VDS pan car body
Team Redmade Motors 47t "voodoo" motor
What I'd like to get:
some type of aftermarket servo
a set of Micro T turnbuckles
a set of ATM SAS adjustable shocks
shock fluid (a variety of different viscosities)
Intellect (or something similar) 7.4v 1400 mah Ni-Mh cells
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXMUD8&P=7
The battle plan is this. I'd use the adjustable shocks to create adjustable preload (basically, the tension of the spring). The turnbuckles would be used to create an adjustable camber/caster setup. Alot of the stock parts will be shaved, alot, to get the thing as light as possible, while still maintaining they're stock strength. Instead of the standard AAA cells, I'll use Intellect 2/3A sized batterys for the ultimate in battery performance (lithiums are overated, lol). The battery's are smaller and will feature larger placement adjustability for the lowest CoG possible.
Basically, the turnbuckle system will replicate that of a dual wishbone suspension. I'll use two tie rods/turnbuckles. One on each side of the knuckle. When the front and rear are adjusted at the same time, it pushes the knuckles out, or pulls it in creating camber or caster, when the only one of the turn buckles is adjusted, it creates toe-in or toe out.
The rear of suspension will remain practically untouched, aside from adjustable shocks. Since the rear end is a basically a swing arm suspension system, the camber and caster can be adjusted with spring tension.
This is the first design and if it works well, I'll make it official.

Sweed, I think my method would actually be a little easier, becuase you can adjust everything with the crank of the tierods, lol...

i say screw it all, throw some swampers on it, awd with locked diffs., and a high torque motor and just blow over the turns...kinda cheap but effective. put a push bumper on the front 2 spin everyone out.
You speak of camber, sweed.

I've been going through MZR (Yes, I sometimes do my own research..) and found this. It should work for the front end of you're car, and simplify it alot.
You can't easily adjust the ____* but otherwise it's simple:
*The top of the wheel, either toward the chassis or away, what's that called?

Tie rod will be a challenge (more turn-buckles) but if it's RWD, you don't have to make telescoping shafts!
I'll post up links as I get to them, but look into that.
Yeah, basically. It'll hopefully be better than a Min-Z...
Why Ni-Mh's? I guess it'll make it seem more race legal. Since Li-poly isn't allowed in profesional carpet racing series (yet) why do a miniature version with Li-poly's? Besides, I don't need Li-ion, or poly power to power the "voodoo"...
Oh, and texan, I had you beat even before you started the DMX, with my XC2f60 project, lol...

i understood all the stuff explained in that link from a helpful game called forza motorsports. so wat yur doing is making a carpet racer that has a fully adjustable suspension setup?
Your really trying to beat me with alphanumeric names arent ya! [DMX] = dual motor xmod
Why NiMH as opposed to lithium of sorts? Besides the "over ratedness"

That should clear things up for you

umm...ok. im more of a redneck with this kinda stuff.
big shiny motor+big battery+cool paint job=fast car
sry but most of that stuff went right over my head, but it sounds lik yur gonna make i pretty neat car. i hope 2 follow this thoughout yur build. it reminds me of the mini z hatchback that did 60 from rcaction magazine.
