Hi, i'm making this tutorial to try to stop the repeating posts of the same questions. So Here it is. I give credit to anakin and other people i have taken the photos from. Im just here to help the forum.

First to answer some questions.

What is the difference between the SB and the SB Hybrid?

The difference is on the SB Hybrid you are using the Stage 2 Armature. This tutorial/how to teaches how to make the SB Hybrid. To make the SB normal just use the SB Armature instead. SB Hybrid out performs the SB so i advise to just build the SB Hybrid instead.

*New method in the FAQ. Building SB without removing pinion.

Here is a new Spin Brush. There is NO difference between the Spin Brush and the Spin Brush Pro as far as the motor goes.

Take the Battery Cover off and break the spin brush open. pry it or what ever.

There are four screws that hold the motor on place held in by a white plastic piece. remove the screws and take out motor

This is the open Spin Brush

This is the motor

You wanna pull off the white pinion (slides off easily ... just use pliers or something) You also want to remove the end cap. There are two taps the hold the endcap in place. Pry each tab up with a small screw driver or something that u can fit under the tabs. Once the tabs are bent up the cap should just pull right off.

You should be able to slide the armature out of the SB Motor. (armature pictured further below)What you have left is an empty housing with 2 magnets inside.

Now. Take your stage 2 motor. Remove the pinion on the motor using a pinion puller. people have come up with different ways. Desolder (using a soldering) the capacitor and resistors attached to the stage 2 housing.

This is what it looks like when the end cap comes off

This is the armature

After removing the end cap and pinion pull the armature out. Stick it into the SB housing. Place the pinion on. Place the End Cap on.
Make sure the brushings are on right when sticking the end cap on. The Brushings are the metal tabs inside the end cap.

Now with everything assembled. Press the End Cap Tab holders in.
Solder the Capacitor and Resistor on the sides of the SB Housing.
And your done.
This is the finished product

if i am wrong just please correct me. if you have questions post them here.

Re: How To: Build SB/SB Hybrid Motor (Tutorial) and FAQ

I did this mod and all i did was replace the mags. I used a Blue stage two motor and now it seems slower than a stock motor. also the outside is magnetic. screws will stick to it. the stock one doesnt do that. it works perfectly fine its just a little slow. could i have messed up the brushes or springs a lil? how can i fix the magnatism? or is it normal?
Thank You!

echo! echo... lol

anyhow, you can use any 130 style endbell, including sb endbell, tamiya motor endbell, plasma dash endbell, s2 endbell, but a ball bearing endbell would be best. at this rate you might as well buy yourself a ball bearing can and swap that in.

Re: How To: Build SB/SB Hybrid Motor (Tutorial) and FAQ

Ok, one more time. Answer this please. There are no pictures in this tut. They haven't worked for over a month. Im fixing to delete the tut or move it back out to motor upgrades or something. What do you think of that?

Also, is famous even still around??

If someone would be gracious enough to take pictures while they try this, send them to me, Ill put them in my gallery and modify famous' post to point to them.

Thanks,

Ok...I got it running now. It runs smooth, it isn't as fast as my S2 10t, but it seems more torquey. It should be faster though...correct?

Re: How To: Build SB/SB Hybrid Motor (Tutorial) and FAQ

Well, only one magnet has color on it, but I guess I will just try it untill it works right. I can't remeber how they came out anymore...oh well.

BTW...The cap is 2 pieces...just leave the little piece with the soldering on the can.

Re: How To: Build SB/SB Hybrid Motor (Tutorial) and FAQ

OK, I just attempted to do this...all I did was swap the magnets from the SB motor to a stage 2 11t. It spun with a very small amount of friction when I spun it by hand. Then I ran it in my car and the car ran very slow. Just wondering what I may have done wrong? Could I have put the magnets in the wrong way or does that matter?

BTW I did this without desoldering or anything...it makes it a very simple upgrade...as long as I can get it to run correctly...lol

SB hybrids

so why does 1 have to take the pinion off anyways?why not just swap the magnets if all you want is the magnets n you prefer the stage 2 armature.my question would be wich armature is really better.the SB or the Stage2?ive seen several diff armatures in the SB itself.

what exactly are we using from each motor are we using the sb armature and housing and just removing the endcap from the s2 motor and then unsoldering.

Re: How To: Build SB/SB Hybrid Motor (Tutorial) and FAQ

i just built my sb hybrid. it took me a real long time like 2 hours but its finaly together and running in the right direction.
BUT
I made it with the white stage 2 motor and it seems to preform no better then my S2 drag motor ( red ). i seem to have lost top speed. DOES IT GO FASTER IF U MAKE IT WITH A HIGHER TOP SPEED S2 MOTOR???

thanks

that is what a sb hybrid is! and sb hybrid is way better than a sb motor! an sb motor is not wound for speed, only for acceleration, because if there was too much speed the tooth brush could hurt you, they put tourqe so that if you jently push it wont stop easily, it would still kind of turn then when you stop pushing it will pick up to speed in half a sec.

Re: no solder method

speedsheep wrote:
i found a way to make the sb hybrid without solder
or pulling off the pinion, or completely destroying the entire motor
(DO NOT PULL OF PINION, NO REASON TO)
you must be very careful and pull back the wired and resistors and such back to the label on the stock engine
then you fashion and sort of tool from a paper clip, bend on end to a 90 angle and make sure the clip is strong, also make sure the bend can fit through the grooves in the amature (the paperclip is what you pull the old magnets out with)
pull both out then look for a u shaped peice of metal and take that out
then put the new magnets in
then put the U under both magnets on the label side of the motor
spin it a few times to make sure its running good
pull back down the wiring (VERY CAREFULLY, AND SLOWLY!!!)
put the end cap in...
then unplug ur current motor (before tearing apeart the body) and plug in the new one to make sure it works... if it is in reverse, just switch the magnets...
if it works put the new engine in, chuck in some fresh batteries, and watch your tires fly off

p.s. DO NOT LET THE U PEICE STAY IN, IT JAMS THE CENTER
... but remember to put it back in order the center will rub against the magnets and cause alot of friction and not go anywhere
also dont be upset if you dont get it the first time, mine ended up a pile of scrap metal the first time, the second however turned out great

im sorry but can u add fotos please cuz ur saying this like we kno what some of the stuff ur talking bout sorry dont really wanna be a bother but can u do that?
